On Christmas Eve this Sunday evening, many church peoples will gather to celebrate and reflect that lighting process in candlelight services around the world as The First Candle is lit then used to light the next wick and so forth. But here's the amazing thing: The word "wick" originated from the Old English "cwic," which, like "quicken," initially referred to being alive and having life, vigor, and the energy to act!
What a blessed metaphor for our well-it lives in Christ!
During His ministry on earth, Jesus clearly told us we're part of His ongoing candlelight brigade. As Matthew 5:14 records the quote, Jesus said: "You are the light of the world!"
You're the LIGHT - not the heavy!
You're the LIGHT - not the gloom or the shadow.
YOU ARE the light of Christ in the world.
May your Christmas be bright, and may God help each of us to lighten up all year!
